Visas
A 30-day non-extendable visa exempt-entry is allowed for citizens of Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brunei Darussalam, Canada, Costa Rica, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Iceland, Italy, Japan, Republic of Korea, Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Malta, Monaco, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Singapore, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and the United States of America. Visa information can be found at Taiwan’s Bureau of Consular Affairs or at your nearest Taiwan representative office.
Weather
The average temperature in Taipei in December-January is 20-25°C (68-77°F). The environment is humid, we recommend bringing a light jacket or sweater and a travel umbrella. Check either Taiwan’s Central Weather Bureau or Accuweather for the latest forecasts.

Money
Taiwan’s currency is the New Taiwan Dollar. Find the latest exchange rates on Oanda.com. ATMs are plentiful, and credit cards are readily accepted in Taipei.
Communications
Mandarin is the official language, although Taiwanese, Hakka, and English are also spoken. The time zone: +8 GMT. The country code is 886, and Taipei’s area code is 02. The outgoing international code is 002. Mobile telephones run on the GSM 900 and 1800 networks.
Getting Around
The international airport closest to Taipei is Chiang Kai-Shek International Airport (CKS). We can arrange airport pickup with a car service; cost is NT$1,000.
Zhongngxiao Road bisects Taipei into north and south, and Zhongshan Road splits the city into east and west. Taipei Train Station is in the central-western part of the city. Taxis are plentiful and inexpensive, with the meter starting at NT$70. Surcharges apply after 11pm, and tipping is not expected.
Taipei’s Metropolitan Area Rapid Transit System (MRT) is modern and efficient. All ticket machines have instructions in English, and inside the trains, stops are also announced in English. The MRT ceases operations around midnight.
